Hornsby and the Upper North Shore

Where we work: Hornsby, the Upper North Shore and the Hawkesbury

The 20 suburbs we cover for roof repairs, restoration, re-roofing and gutters, from Beecroft and Cheltenham north to Cowan and Brooklyn.

Our patch runs from the Federation streets at Beecroft and Cheltenham, north along the ridge through Hornsby and Asquith, out to the bushland suburbs at Berowra and Cowan, and down to the Hawkesbury at Brooklyn. West of the highway it takes in Westleigh and the acreage country past Galston Gorge at Arcadia and Fiddletown.

It is one geography but it is not one roof. A terracotta roof behind a hedge in Cheltenham, a 1970s concrete tile roof on a steep Berowra block and a shed roof on five acres at Fiddletown have almost nothing in common except the leaf load. Each suburb page below covers what we actually see there.

Hornsby and the town centre

  • Hornsby — the rail junction, the town centre and the streets dropping away either side of it
  • Hornsby West — the western side of Hornsby, toward Galston Road and the valley
  • Hornsby Heights — big treed blocks running down toward Berowra Valley National Park
  • Waitara — compact blocks, older tile roofs and apartment-scale buildings near the hospital
  • Asquith — post-war housing along the highway and the rail line

South of Hornsby

  • Normanhurst — inter-war and post-war homes under tall established gums
  • Thornleigh — the ridge between Pennant Hills Road and the bushland to the west
  • Westleigh — a pocket almost surrounded by reserve
  • Pennant Hills — ridge-top housing, deep gardens and an older building stock
  • Beecroft — heritage conservation area, Federation and Arts and Crafts rooflines
  • Cheltenham — quiet streets, mature canopy and terracotta that needs careful handling
  • Wahroonga — large blocks, grand roofs, and two councils across one suburb

North toward the river

  • Mount Colah — along the Pacific Highway with Ku-ring-gai Chase on the doorstep
  • Mount Kuring-gai — bushland on three sides and a genuine ember exposure
  • Berowra — ridge housing above Berowra Creek and the waters below
  • Berowra Heights — later estates under a thick canopy
  • Cowan — a small, exposed settlement high on the ridge
  • Brooklyn — the northernmost suburb of Sydney, on the Hawkesbury, with salt in the air

The rural west

  • Arcadia — acreage, orchards, long driveways and large shed roofs
  • Fiddletown — small rural locality between Arcadia and Galston

Not sure if you are in the patch?

If your suburb sits next to one of these, ring and ask. The practical limits are access and travel, not a line on a map.
